Saturday 24 September 2016: Easyjet flight to Kalamata in the morning - pick up the hire car at Kalamata airport. First, drive to Messini station to see if the trains are running - clearly not! Some sort of track washout.... then to the junction at Asprohoma, no traffic here on either route for a very long time. Lunch in Kalamata. Then drove to Olympia and stayed at the same hotel (Hotel Neda) that we stayed at on the 2013 trip. Time to have a good look around the archaeological site at Olympia, including viewing where the Statue of Zeus used to be - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
