Today 22/05/2016 I cycled from Wath to Dunford Bridge and back, along the former Great Central route, now mostly forming the Trans Pennine trail. Total mileage was 42, gross distance climbed was about 1700 ft.
The line closed to all traffic in 1981 and the section Wath - Worsbrough - Penistone was lifted very quickly; Penstone - Woodhead - Hadfield lasted a few more years before it was lifted. I never travelled over the Worsbrough route, and only ever travelled over the Woodhead route once.
