ScotRail ran a "Farewell to the Class 314 Trains" today 18/12/2019 as their very last runs in passenger service. They ceased working scheduled passenger trains during the previous week after 40 years in service. Access to the farewell trip was by donation to MND (Motor Neurone Disease) Scotland, ScotRail's designated charity.
The trip ran in three parts: 1. (which I couldn't get to) Glasgow Central High Level (HL) - Ayr - Glasgow Central (HL); 2. Glasgow Central (HL) - Carstairs - Cumbernauld - Glasgow Central (HL); 3. Glasgow Central (HL) - Rutherglen curve - Glasgow Central Low Level - Yoker - Helensburgh Central - Anniesland - Glasgow Central Low Level.
Class 314, amongst other trains, contain electronic equipment designed by myself while working at Alstom.
Before the Farewell I visited the Paisley Canal branch, which I had covered as a through route to Elderslie and Kilmacolm just before it closed in 1981/1982.
