The bottom of Tramway Road at its junction with Preston Avenue in Irlam. In the middle distance, left to right, is the original 1873 course of the Cheshire Lines Committee's Manchester to Liverpool Line, to the left this is now Irlam Linear Park. The remains of this line's bridge over the Flow Moss tramway can be seen, near the lamp post. Beyond and at the higher level can be seen the post-1893 CLC alignment, rebuilt to cross the Manchester Ship Canal. The nearer bridge was used for many years for rail access to Irlam Soap and Candle Works.
