Photos taken during a business trip to the Melbourne area, Victoria, Australia in November 1998. These are all scans from negatives.
The extensive Melbourne suburban network is "Irish gauge" (5 ft 3 in, 1600 mm), whereas the long distance services to South Australia and New South Wales are standard gauge; the tram network is also standard gauge, and at this time was the most extensive in the southern hemisphere (it has since been further enlarged and is now (2020) claimed to be the largest in the world).
See trip report for the full itinerary, traction details and notes.
