General Notes
This trip was planned to take in a three-day railtour organised by IBSE from München via Regensburg to Passau. An extra day was planned to cover some other lines of interest in Bayern.

Notes: Today's plan was to travel over a few lines in Bayern that I'd not managed to previously. The branch to Neustadt (Waldnaab) is a comparitively recent re-opening and is just 1km long. I'd never travelled over the Schnellfahrstrecke (SFS) between Nürnberg and Ingolstadt - and this is one of the few SFS routes that is traversed by RE trains and so can be used on cheaper tickets. I also wanted to travel over the Schlömener Kurve avoiding Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg; however these only run on alternate hours. Finally I wanted to spend some time viewing the Göltzschtalbrücke, which involves a walk of a few km from Netschkau station. Göltzschtalbrücke is the largest masonry viaduct in the world. When I got there I found that there was a tethered helium balloon giving rides to view the bridge (cost: 15EUR) which was well worth it and I got some excellent photos. Unfortunately this meant that I would have to miss out on the Schlömener Kurve - never mind. Today's tickets: single from Regensburg Hbf to Neustadt (Waldnaab) to avoid the 09:00 starting time limit, then Bayern-Single and Sachsen-Single tickets, all pre-purchased at a ticket machine.
