Saturday 30 March 1985. Looking southwards along the Cheshire Lines Committee's Halewood Jns to Aintree line, from near the bridge by which the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway's Bootle Jn - Sefton Jn - Fazakerley line crosses over the CLC line (this line remained open for engineering traffic to Fazakerley for another couple of years). The line here opened from Liverpool Central (via the Halewood Jns) in 1879; it was extended to Southport Lord Street in 1884. Passenger services from here to Southport ceased in 1952, south of here to Halewood Jns closed to passengers in 1960. Race day trains ceased in 1966. The nearest overbridge carries Bull Lane, now just a footpath. To the left, beyond the light-coloured fence, is the present electrified Liverpool - Ormskirk line, in a cutting; it crosses the former line to Halewood on a steel girder bridge, just visible through the centre arch of Bull Lane bridge.
