The frontage of the mainline station at Piraeus; the harbour is behind the camera and to the right. This was the terminus of the former Piraeus Athens and Peloponnese Railway, which between 1884 and 1902 built a total of 722 km of metre gauge track, the largest metre gauge network in Europe. The metre gauge route into Piraeus was closed in 2005 and was converted to standard gauge.
