A line-up of RENFE (Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles, Spanish National Railways) motive power at the buffer stops at Alacant Terminal. In this view, the nearer tracks are standard (1435 mm) gauge, electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz, and are used by high speed services to Madrid and Murcia. Further away, where the two class 334 diesel locomotives are stabled, the tracks are broad (1668 mm) gauge with 3 kV dc electrification. To the right is "Avant" class 104 set 20 ready to work train 33125, 12:50 Alacant Terminal to Murcia del Carmen, which I will take to Murcia (and back): this will run via the high speed line throughout, the last section of which, from Orihuela to Murcia, only opened on 20 December 2022.
