Between Tua and Ferradosa, the Barragem da Valeira, opened in 1975, raised the water level to the point where the bottom of the girders of the railway viaduct at Ferradosa would have almost been submerged. A new viaduct over the river was built further east, but the original bridge abutments can be seen, along with the girder supports visible here at water level. This is the view to the south side of the river, from the new railway alignment.
