Train IR876 has just arrived into Porto Campanhã from Pocinho in the Douro Valley led by Comboios de Portugal (CP) class 1400 diesel locomotives 1424 and 1432, the latter being "dead". The train will continue with the five minute journey to Porto's São Bento station. Class 1400 were designed by English Electric (EE) in the late 1960s and have a 1370 hp (970 kW) EE 8CSVT engine. These are the last diesel locomotives working passenger services in Portugal and have a big following from British railway enthusiasts, being an uprated of the UK Class 20 locomotive.
