Fully restored in original livery, and ready to work an enthusiast's charter train, M62 001 stands at Szolnok depot. From 1965 onwards nearly 2500 locomotives of this and similar types were built at Lugansk, now in Ukraine, for Hungary, Poland, the former Czechoslovakia and the former German Democratic Republic. There have been widespread withdrawals from service in recent years, and the type only sees significant usage in Hungary on freight trains. Many more were built for the former Soviet Union's home market, including double versions.
