At Weaste, alongside the Manchester Ship Canal, the rail-served cement terminal has not seen traffic for some time; this is the end of a single track branch line from Eccles. The cement terminal has recently been receiving cement by ship from Limerick in Ireland via the Manchester Ship Canal.
