View looking eastwards up the Manchester Ship Canal from the A50 Knutsford Road swing bridge. Visible in turn are the Latchford Viaduct of the LNWR Warrington and Altrincham Junction Railway, Latchford Locks and the M6 Motorway viaducts at Thelwall. The railway viaduct was the Ship Canal's Railway Deviation No.3, the original pre-1893 route crossed the course of the Canal in the foreground of the photo. The railway over the viaduct closed in 1985, but not before I had travelled over it on a couple of railtours.
The short span to the left went over a railway that ran alongside the Canal for a long distance feeding many factories; now a road occupies the alignment. The span to the right is for another road.
