Sunday 8th May 2016: Mérida - Cáceres - Valencia de Alcántara - Cáceres - Mérida. Cáceres - Valencia de Alcántara only has one train each way on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays only. Valencia de Alcántara has been a terminus from Cáceres since 2012 when the line beyond, crossing the border into Portugal and meeting the Badajoz - Entroncamento line at Torre des Vargans, was closed to all traffic. Mérida has a lot of Roman remains.
