What I have called "Boysnope Tramway 1" ran from Boysnope Wharf on the River Irwell in Higher Irlam to the eastern side of Chat Moss; this is only marked on the 1848 maps though the course is still visible as roads on later maps. I could find no physical signs of the tramway, but the site of the wharf is in use as industrial premises. This view of the 1848 Ordnance Survey map shows the wharf, lower centre, with the tramway running north-westwards over the main road (now the A57) and across Chat Moss. Panning the map shows that the tramway ended at "Barton Station" on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, which was actually the first station named Barton Moss, open from 1832 to 1862.
