The frontage of the mainline station at Piraeus; the harbour is behind the camera and to the right. This was the terminus of the former Piraeus Athens and Peloponnese Railway, which between 1884 and 1902 built a total of 722km of metre gauge track, the largest metre gauge network in Europe. The metre gauge route into Piraeus was closed in 2005 and was converted to standard gauge.
