Isle of Man

This was a visit by a group of colleagues and former colleagues from Preston and Trafford Park works, and friends and families.

I had last visited the island in 1988.

As well as the obvious attraction of having some very interesting railways, there is plenty of opportunity for walking, for those who wish for some more exercise.

"The Chasms" are an interesting geological feature on the southern tip of the Isle of Man. They are accessible from the coastal path between Port St Mary and Port Erin.

The Snaefell Railway summit terminus is 2036 feet above sea level, and is often shrouded in mist as seen here, with car 5 just visible. One hour later the summit was perfectly clear, as is often the case.

Taken from the railway line just below the summit, this view shows the ridge between Clagh Ouyr (551m) and North Barrule (565m). This was a very pleasant walk on a sunny day.
