Manchester Metrolink East Manchester Line Construction Works

Some pictures of our local tram system extensions under construction.

The route eastwards from Manchester Piccadilly was initially only authorised as far as Droylsden, but later finance was obtained for the continuation of the route into Ashton-under-Lyne.

The first set of photographs, taken in April 2011, show significant progress as far as Droylsden but little beyond there. The second set, taken in July 2012, show the route as far as Droylsden pretty much complete - and in fact test trams have run over this section - and work in progress throughout the extension to Ashton.

The route to Droylsden is advertised to open sometime in 2012.
