Taken from Ayres Road bridge looking towards the existing Altrincham - Manchester route, where the tram is seen crossing left to right between Old Trafford and Trafford Bar stations. Here the East Didsbury route climbs up from under the Ayres Road overbridge to allow for the crossovers into the new Old Trafford depot, which is out of sight to the left. The 'outbound" route from Trafford Bar can be seen swinging in from the right, the 'inbound' route drops down to form a burrowing junction with the existing Altrincham line.
In years gone by the line carried straight on, under the Altrincham line, through Throstle Nest tunnel, then forking left for Trafford Park or right to Manchester Central.
