The fine but disused railway bridge at Latchford, looking westwards along the Manchester Ship Canal (MSC). The Warrington and Altrincham Junction Railway was opened in 1854 from Warrington to Timperley Junction, which was about 40 yards from where I sit in my lounge as I type this. This bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal was opened in 1893 as part of Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.3. The line closed to passengers in 1962 and to freight in 1985 - and yes I did travel over it. This road is on the alignment of a Ship Canal railway from Latchford to Rixton, some 4 miles away: there were MSC railways along the canal banks for quite long distances.
