In platform 19, one of the standard gauge platforms here at Madrid-Chamartín, RENFE ALVIA class 120 sets 059+058 are ready to form train Alvia 4167, the 17:38 departure to San Sebastián and Bilbao. The sets will run together along the high speed line to Burgos then through the gauge changer there. At Miranda de Ebro the train will divide and the front portion will continue to Vitoria/Gasteiz (where I will alight) and San Sebastián/Donostia; the rear portion will run via the "rare" direct curve onto the Bilbao line.
