Serpa is a large town in the Baixo Alentejo region of Portugal, dating back to Roman times. City walls were built and rebuilt over the centuries, and an aqueduct was later built to carry water from a well - outside the walls - to the castle. This view shows part of the historic pump arrangement from the well to the aqueduct.
