- (23116) Latchford
Another view of Latchford railway bridge (Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.3) and the Manchester Ship Canal, looking east from Knutsford Road swing bridge. Latchford locks can be seen beyond, and in the far distance the M6 Thelwall viaducts. - (18223) Cadishead viaduct
These containers have been put in place - on both sides of the viaduct - to stop trespassers from getting across the viaduct itself over the Ship Canal. - (17726) Cadishead viaduct
Looking roughly northwards from the eastern abutment of Cadishead viaduct over the Manchester Ship Canal. - (17385) Latchford viaduct
View looking eastwards up the Manchester Ship Canal from the A50 Knutsford Road swing bridge. Visible in turn are the Latchford Viaduct of the LNWR Warrington and Altrincham Junction Railway, Latchford Locks and the M6 Motorway viaducts at Thelwall. The railway viaduct was the Ship Canal's Railway Deviation No.3, the original pre-1893 route crossed the course of the Canal in the foreground of the photo. The railway over the viaduct closed in 1985, but not before I had travelled over it on a couple of railtours.
The short span to the left went over a railway that ran alongside the Canal for a long distance feeding many factories; now a road occupies the alignment. The span to the right is for another road. - (17211) Cadishead viaduct
Looking roughly southwards from the eastern abutment of Cadishead viaduct over the Manchester Ship Canal. - (16893) Latchford viaduct
Latchford viaduct, forming part of the Manchester Ship Canal's 1893 Railway Deviation No.3. Opened 1893, closed 1985. The road is on the formation of a railway that fed various works alongside the Canal. - (16483) Cadishead viaduct
Cadishead viaduct, by which the Glazebrook East Jn - Skelton Jn line (opened on this alignment as Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.4) in 1893, closed to all traffic in 1984) crosses the Manchester Ship Canal. - (14298) Cadishead viaduct
A wider view looking roughly southwards from the eastern abutment of Cadishead viaduct over the Manchester Ship Canal. The original course of the River Mersey, before the canal was built, was across this area from lower left to middle right. - (11446) Runcorn Gap
Runcorn Gap: the rail and road bridges over the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal. - (9555) Eastfield
86101 "Sir William A Stanier FRS" on the Down Arrival line at Eastfield, just north of Peterborough. This was part of a test run for the forthcoming work for Hull Trains. - (9459) Whittle-le-Woods
The bridge that takes Chorley Old Road over the canal, looking eastwards towards the tunnels. - (8906) Trans Pennine Trail
This bridge carries the A56 Warrington to Lymm road (between Latchford and Lymm) over the original 1853 alignment of the Warrington and Altrincham Junction Railway. This was replaced by "Deviation No.3" in 1893 ready for the construction of the Manchester Ship Canal; the trackbed of the newer line, lifted in 1988, is behind the camera, and now forms part of the Trans Pennine Trail. - (8395) Achlodokampos
The railtour has stopped just before Achlodokampos viaduct to allow participants to alight for photographs. The southern side of the temporary alignment, built to bypass the viaduct damaged in 1944, is clearly visible. - (8307) Latchford
Looking west from the middle of the middle lock gate at Latchford on the Manchester Ship Canal. The bridge of the disused Warrington and Altrincham Junction railway line is visible (Ship Canal Railway Deviation No.3), and beyond that is Knutsford Road swing bridge and Latchford High Level Bridge. - (8303) Bunsall incline
Looking down Bunsall incline towards Fernilee Reservoir.
